JACK COLE was the first man to put East Indian dance to jazz music.  Having created and pioneered  “jazz dance,” a revolution in itself, he went on to create a unique in-house dance company for Harry Cohn at Columbia Pictures.  He staged all Marilyn Monroe’s numbers - she wouldn’t work with anyone else - and helped make stars of Rita Hayworth, Betty Grable, Ann Miller, Mitzi Gaynor and Gwen Verdon.  He worked with Gene Kelly and Danny Kaye.  He triumphed on Broadway and his dancers adored him - but he was a notoriously difficult, temperamental perfectionist with a habit of walking out on projects.  Only his partner of thirty years, David Gray, knew how to tame the monster.  Now, at last, his extraordinary, long forgotten genius is getting the recognition it deserves.
